This song was written to celebrate the execution of Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by two Sikhs, Bhai Beant Singh and Bhai Satwant Singh. Sikhs not only venerate the executors, but celebrate the moment of Indira Gandhi’s execution as being in line with executions carried out on past dictators and tyrants who had invaded the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. Naturally, focus on this time period centres around the Genocide of Sikhs that followed, however songs like this were written to ensure that coming generations would come to revere the two Khalsei as they do their predecessors such as Bhai Mehtab Singh and Bhai Sukha Singh of the Eighteenth century. The lyrics are to the point and flit between contextualising the era and the two Sikhs who carried out the execution itself. Most notably, the chorus lyrics evoke the ferocity and rhythmic snappiness of late 1980s hip hop, that helped to make this track a repeated request at Dhadi darbars and political rallies throughout the UK three decades ago.
Bullets rained from the firearms of the two Khalsei
And through this action they extinguished the tyranny of the Hindutva ruler
The Sikh World’s pain was real and their cause justified – why did you seek them out as enemies?
The whole Panth celebrates these two Khalsei who executed you
Sikhs had begun to arm themselves once more, looking abroad for firearms which the State denied them
In every corner, in every household, this is what Sikhs called for (self-defence in the face of State oppression)
You thought you vanquished the SIkhs by sending the military in to Darbar Sahib Amritsar?
The seat of power (India) came under the solitary control of Hindu fascists whilst Sikhs were left empty-handed
Looking around across the World – who could share the plight of the Sikhs?
Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale ignited the people and stood tall to voice what Sikhs demanded
Time and again I have seen Sikhs step forward to die and sacrifice, even for the Hindu nation
Seated on heated plates (amongst other tortures) Sikhs live the way the House of Guru Nanak set out
Two Khalsei visited the Darbar Sahib in Amritsar and made vows to right the wrong (of invasion into Darbar Sahib)
The Hindu nation has instigated a grave injustice on the Sikh people here
After sacrificing themselves for the good of all – constituting 90% of all martyrs – Sikhs are now commonly termed terrorists
The hawk of the Tenth Master brought a message to the two Khalsei that they could not ignore
